Edward Crafts has sung leading roles in the Dallas Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Metropolitan Opera, and the major opera companies of the world for many years. His wife Heather is a former opera singer, now teacher. Edward and Heather are the newest member of the Dallas Opera Guild. I met Edward in connection with the Adopt an Artist program, years ago. When they moved to Dallas a couple of years ago (semi-retirement), I saw Edward at an opera event, and recognized him. Since then, we’ve renewed acquaintance and friendships.
They are inaugurating a new concert series in Dallas which begins on Sat. evening. This concert series is connected with a summer program for young singers in Italy which they sponsor; young singers study Italian, voice, staging, and have opportunities to perform opera roles on stage. This first concert features our Vocal Competition winner, Audra Methvin, along with Edward and other young singers of promise. Stephen Dubberly from the UNT opera department and assistant conductor of Ft. Worth Opera accompanies. They will perform both familiar and little known “Gems of French Opera”. Listen to WRR radio for ads and information.
I encourage you to attend this outstanding concert on Sat. evening at the Sammons Center (Google for driving directions). Free parking is adjacent to the center. You will want to meet Edward and Heather and welcome them and their distinctive talent to the Dallas Opera Guild. Tickets available at the door.
I’ll look forward to seeing you there,
Marilyn Halla
